What is a good compact camera with rapid shot function?
what is a good compact camera that has a rapid shot stills function for photographing sports action? Up to a maximum of about £200 ($300)

It's my understanding that most compacts do not do rapid shooting. Not rapid as I would define it anyway. For example, the one mentioned only has a continuous shooting speed of 1.4 frames per second. In my experience, that's about average for a compact and not sufficient for sport really
It's a feature more normally found on SLRs. A £340 Canon 1000D will do 3fps, my 30D does 5fps (cost £650 3 years ago) and a £2500 Canon 1D MkIII does 10fps.
So. How rapid do you want rapid to be? If your idea of rapid is similar to mine, you may have to rethink your budget.
